Share Your Story

Why should I share my story?

For you

  • Personal healing and clarity: Putting experiences into words can help you process emotions and understand your life journey.
  • A sense of purpose: Sharing can transform what you’ve been through into something useful and meaningful.
  • Stronger connection with others: Your story helps others understand and relate to you better.

For others

  • Inspiration and encouragement: Your experience can motivate, build resilience, and bring reassurance to loved ones facing the challenges life will inevitably bring.
  • A legacy for your family: Your story preserves key moments, lessons, and milestones in your own voice, giving loved ones something meaningful to return to over time.
  • Comfort and understanding for loved ones: Your story can offer perspective and a sense of continuity that helps younger family members feel rooted in a changing world.

How do I share my story?

You will meet with a facilitator in a comfortable setting either face-to-face or via a secure video conferencing web-based application for an audio recorded interview for a maximum of two hours. During the interview session you will be asked a series of questions that allow your life story to unfold.

Tell me more about the audio recording?

The interview will be captured via audio recording software and the resulting audio file will be copied to a USB drive. The USB drive will be provided to you with a copy release to allow you to share the recording as you wish.

What is the role of the facilitator?

The facilitator will ask you a series of questions. After each question, she will listen openly, empathetically, without interruption or judgment. The facilitator will provide a safe space for you to allow the unfolding of your life story to take place. The facilitator will guard your privacy. You are in control of what you share in response to each question.

How is my privacy or that of my loved one protected?

Participant confidentiality is paramount in all legacy recordings – an Audio Recording Agreement is established and approved by the facilitator and participant before moving forward with any interview session.

What influence will the Catholic Christian faith of the facilitator have on the interview?

The facilitator welcomes interview participants from varied backgrounds and beliefs. The facilitator’s Catholic Christian faith guides her values and beliefs; however, she does not seek to impose her values on another or refuse legacy recording services to individuals who do not share her beliefs.

What are some sample interview questions?

  • Tell me about your parents. Where were they born? What memories do you have of them?
  • What were your dreams and goals for your life when you graduated high school?
  • What job did you do most of your life? What did you like most about it?
  • How do you feel about growing older?
  • Is there something about your faith in particular that you would like to pass along?

What is the investment?

The investment to capture and preserve your story starts at $75. This includes:

  • Up to a two-hour interview session.
  • An unedited audio recording saved to a USB drive.
  • A copy release, so you may share the recording with family and loved ones.

Transcription is available upon request for an additional fee. Travel costs may apply for in-person interviews.
